A couple of members in the past month brought up the question of whether the club should remain SFSA (sadwfc inc) or return to just SA Doctor Who FC Inc.



I see no reason to dust off SFSA and return to ONLY SADWFC Inc - but here's an idea:



What if the club IS SFSA still - A General SF Club, but have "specific interest groups" or "sections" ie. The club retains the incorporation as sadwfc inc for legal purposes, but has the opportunity for people to also have other specific interest groups - with Doctor Who as the biggest. This would provide the groundwork for  ties and / or feeding into other specific groups and meets, with us being the General and Who conent, etc etc.



Does this make any sense? In essence, all that would change would be that there is a specific "stream" of SFSA which is the Doctor Who focus - essential the sadwfc part of SFSA (but not a separate membership base). This would give a focus for those who feel that there is the ambiguity still as to what the club stands for.



Ideas? Comments?

Well, considering that people have gotten used to the idea of SFSA, especially since the website domain and mailing lists are all called SFSA (somewhere in the name) I'd suggest leaving it as that, with the focus on Dr. Who.



Or we could go with something even more wildly inaccurate like

GAF (Geeks & Freaks) 



Seriously though, I suggest we leave it the way it is now, at least until we come up with something better or take a completely different focus (BFC - Buffy Fan Club)....

How about SFA that has a nice ring to it.

why? when som,eone ask what you are doing this weekend you can say SFA.

SFSA is the one that appealed to me on the internet.

I had browsed Google for Sci-Fi groups and came up with nothing much of interest. Then last night I browsed Dr Who Fan Clubs in the hope I might find news on series III to answer my six year old sons` questions and what did I find? A few Dr Who fan clubs along with the irrelevant dross an unrefined search inevitably brings. Then I saw this site which intimated that it was not restricted to Dr Who exclusively but also to Sci-Fi as a whole. That was the determining factor.

And let`s face it, the originator/s of Dr Who didn`t just arrive at the concept COMPLETELY out of the blue.

They would have had an interest in similar themes and literature that would have led them to this idea.

So by dismissing all things "non_doctor Who" we cannot fully appreciate and enjoy the series.



    By the way, was the first Dr actually `the time traveller` in H.G.Wells` novel ?

It's an interesting question. If he spent more time wandering Earth's future witnessing the inevitible horrors caused by the class system it'd be more likely!

the Doctor did meet you HG Wells in Time Lash so he could have inspired Wells. then did Wells inspire the creators of Who. this is a real Catch 22.



With Wells no Doctor but with out Who no time travel for Wells.

I've just been searching the internet for some sort of SF club in Adelaide and came across this site for the Dr Who Club.
When I first moved to Adelaide in 1987 I dabbled in the club and the ST club (which seems to have split??), ended up doing most of my SF at Melbourne conventions...
I have recently been very dissapointed in local SF conventions supposedly for the fans at very expensive prices... as I was wanting to delve into fandom again...
ah, I miss the old fan conventions...
sorry, I digress...
So am looking around to see if there is any SF fandom left in Adelaide.
I have spent my time doing SCA and now costumers guild stuff and just wanting to know what sort of fan run things are going on here....
(Not just Dr Who but general as well).

We meet once a month at Adelaide High School with a themed meeting incorporating informal discussion and screening. We also meet once a month at a pub which is even informal-er. And we produce bimonthly newsletters and fanzines on a "when we get the contribution" basis.

Or if you're more into events and formal meetings, there's clubs for that too. And if you like vigorous debate then Critical Mass offers a monthly speech, followed by good natured critiques.

I want a bad natyred critiques, probably in a steel cage with jello.

Actually, I think it would be a lovely idea.
Human invented Time Travel, returned and planted a civilisation ( somehow ) on another planet (called Gallifrey) and, with a helping hand from evolution (2 hearts or a duo-cardiac system) became Time Lords.
Alas, however, it seems unlikely.
Shame though,...

but what about regeneration, is there some kind of time vortex to a waiting room sao when one dies the other gets sucked through time an replace the other and there memory downloadeds into ther subconcious, this maybe why there is some memory loss due to faulty downloading

According to a big Finish audio episode, Rassilon came up with the time travel, regeneration and the two hearts for the elite off Gallifrey; and they became Time Lords and the rest of the Gallifrians became the people who look after everything, ie the soldiers, the techs etc. 

This sounds like a caste system: Time Lords/Ladys at the top, Gallifreyans at the bottom and Shebogans (named in Deadly Assassin and usually taken to be the guys living in the quarry outside the capitol) outside the system.
Taking the Plattism of Looms as canon, does this make Time Lord status hereditary? Can Gallifreyans aspire to the Joneses, or are they trapped down the unfashionable part of the capitol?
