Subject: A UK movie version of "The War Of The Worlds"??????

Through sources within the HQ of SFSA, stories have circulated regaring a British movie of "The War Of The Worlds" - based on HG Wells' classic novel, not Spielberg/Cruise's Hollywood pop culture.
Now is this true? If so, can anyone enlighten me about the production details and possible release date?

Apprently there is one, and it has already been released. However, it's a straight-to-DVD movie. Won't be seen in cinemas and will problably be bagged by all and sundry as a cheap rip-off of hte spielbeg/cruise mega budget version. Personally, I think it will be the better of the 2.
Check on imdb.com for details

Found the main difference between the two new version the Cruise/Spelberg is "War of the Worlds". Were the English is "The War of The Worlds". Also the English is a true adaptation of the HG Wells Novel and the American is about a man trying to reunite his family in adverse conditions.
I liked Kerry-Anne's review on the TC/SS version: "No Plot, Bad Script and A little girl you wished would be caught and killed by the aliens." Just when you thought Kerry-Anne has now soul there is a ray of hope. |

Right, thanks guys!
I've got to see both. I've heard from a wide variety of sources that the Hollywood version has great action and effects - but what I really want is Wells' story of 19th century Britain under attack from tripod fighting machines and the earth being consumed by red weed. Now to see Spielberg's I can just go to the cinemas. But the other, I'm going to need to confer with Zaphod.
How do I see the UK version, Zaphod? |

Jimmy, I think the only way to see the real version, is to buy the DVD which I believe was released recently.

Hollywood version:
Fantastic effects and great suspense (I jumped in my seat at least 2 times - sorry Blake!!!!).
Acting - woeful.
Script - I don't think Wells would be impressed.
Character development - Cruise: the good guy who represents the working class American survivor
His son: rebellious youth (bloody wanker if you ask me)
The daughter: (unspoiled and beautiful American innocence)
The Martians: terrorists (the enemy has been with us hiding all along)
I don't think Jestear would agree - see his "Bore of the worlds") |

You are so right on the character view by the americans. Ever since 11/9 (I'm not bloody american) every movie has been based on that paranoia. I think Speilberg is over ever having another good movie, he is surrounded by too many yes men.
PS: Jestear - I know where you live and if you don't show up to the next meeting, I'm taking everyone to your house to watch the BBC DVD...or you can bring it to the meeting and we watch it on the big screen... |

I have just watched the trailer to the UK version........................
It looks PHENOMENAL!!!!!!!
I have so got to see this DVD/movie.
The trailer is wild; 1898 British period costumes, technology, manner of speech and sets. Great special effects (the battles look like they're going to be intense) and the Martians put Spielberg's attempt to shame.
I MUST SEE THIS!!!! |

Dunno, if it has Tom Cruise naked except for a pair of socks ans singing 'Old time rock and roll' then you have the right version. |
