The Star Trek actress and widow of Gene Roddenberry died at home on December 18, 2008 from complications arising from leukemia. She was 76.
Majel was cast in the Star Trek pilot as "Number One", the ship's first officer. She was recast for the series as nurse Christine Chapel and various computer voices, and continued to supply voices for each subsequent series and movie. It was announced in tandem with news of her death, that she had completed voice work for the next Star Trek film.
