Science Fiction

Day of the Triffids being remade by BBC

The BBC is remaking the John Wyndham science fiction classic, The Day of The Triffids, a story about poisonous plants running amok after almost everyone has been blinded by a solar storm (or was it a military experiment gone awry?). With most of the population blind, even the slow moving Triffids have a Darwinian edge.

Hmmm...could be great, but the pattern is bad, good...? Posted by:Martin

Wasn't there a remake done recently? I have a feeling the BBC have done that story several t imes already. Are we now living in an age of unoriginality???? Pardon my waffling, but I'm getting rather tired of seeing endless remakes and sequels......why not pay someone to write something fresh and new? Surely there are new ideas out there somewhere????? It was made into a pretty terrible film in 1962, the best thing about which is Carole Ann Ford as a blind French girl much given to stumbling around in her night attire. It was a superior BBC mini-series in 1982, with Maurice Colbourne as Coker, the real hero of the piece. It's been adapted s a radio play, and Marvel did a comic based on it (I have a black and white reprint of the first two parts). The mini-series was released on DVD maybe four years ago, A previous release had been advertised only to instead be reveled as the movie. Yuck. Posted by:Martin
