The peek at London's take on the Olympics at the end of the Beijing games demonstrated the adage of saying it first admirably. They started with a line of commuters alternately scanning newspapers and scrambling with umbrellas. Then a double decker bus drove slowly past the queue without stopping. It eventually came to a halt, with the commuters dashing forward in a scrum, shoving a man in a wheel chair out of the way. The the lights went off and in the dark the top deck folded away in sections, looking uncannily like the bus which blew up in Tavistock Square. Out of the remains came an opera singer and Jimmy Page on a scissor lift, playing Whole Lotta Love, a 40 year old song.
Terrorism, queuing in the rain for public transport that doesn't come and a look to the past 'cos their future's so bleak--makes Ric Birch's inflatable kangaroos on mountain bikes look not all all cringe worthy.

David "Barcelona Tonight" Richardson summed it up with "The Who's Jimmy Page on guitar...".
