Well, it's as official as an anonymous ABC press release can make it.

But, rather than being a good thing for the ABC, it screams out to me (Aghh! Martin!) that the BBC have learnt from the mediocre 30th anniversary sales.

Then, the anniversary releases consisted of:

~Lots of merchandise with a "1963-1993" logo

~A screening of An Unearthly Child

~A cobbled together montage to screen with such

~A documentary (30 years in the TARDIS)

~And everyone's favourite, Dimensions in Time.

So, instead of licensing the repeat of *one* story, they must have a new agreement for the whole run. What they may lose in video/DVD sales through people watching it on free-to-air, they will certainly be expecting to more than make up in extra merchandising opportunities.

This, in tandem with the "New" Doctor introduced via a webcast, makes it look like they have taken a leaf from NASA's book on facing recent budget cuts-- Faster-Cheaper-Stingier.



Anyway, let's exploit it for the club.

Could it be a back-door attempt to garner a higher-audience awareness of the franchise in order to do something with it - ie new?



I think if it had that effect it would be great - if it had that effect I'd be amazed. I think the BBC wanted to sell it, and the ABC wanted something cheap to show - that would get some people watching.



Which is nice. Will they do something similar in Britain - which would add a little weight to this theory - no, I don't think so - the official stance is that the Satellite station / cable network that shows it is have (a) a dalek weekend, and (b) a Who weekend with specials and broadcasts over the Novemeber anniversary. Only Who on BBC will be adverts for the animated webcast - which is alright by itself I suppose. Paul Cornell seems confident that something might happen with success of the animated webcast and DVD release of it - but who knows.



I echo Martin - Let's "Celebrate" = "Exploit" it for the club....

with exploit are you saying for the month of November we should revert back to SADWFC. So the hundreds upon thousands (well maybe ten) of people will know "Who we are and what we stand (sit upright) for.
